We asked Ellel L four questions to help us understand a little more about her song titled Higher.

1: Choose 3 words that best describe you as an artist?

Electro Dream Pop

2. What was the story or inspiration for writing this record?

‘Higher’ is a song about surrendering to fearless love. It’s a melody that came to me in the second lockdown, I finished shortly after at Tileyard Studios with production duo ARH and signed it to new indie label, Luna Sky. It’s about letting go of your vulnerabilities to experience the highs of love. I wanted to write something that dares to be positive at a time where we have all been through so much. I later created a video with Jack Zhang, an animation, that flips Alice in Wonderland on its head and has a rabbit chasing me into space. The dynamic between the rabbit and myself represents universal love. My great grandmother was a childhood friend and muse of Lewis Carrol, the author, and so that was the seed of inspiration on the visuals.

4: What’s your other favourite record on this week's top 20? Why?

My girl, Kelli-Leigh of course, her new song has power vocals and the spirit of Christmas to get us all feeling festive so that gets my vote!
